The Loud House
This week, Nick debuted a new Nicktoon called The Loud House. It was created by Chris Savino, who's known for his work on Dexter's Laboratory and The Powerpuff Girls, and was the showrunner on the last 2 seasons of both. I know there is a lot of hate on his episodes, but I actually like them. They weren't as good as when they were run by their creators, but I still found them enjoyable.
His first show, the Loud House, was announced nearly 2 years ago. It started out as a 2 1/2 minute short that was released online. It wasn't bad, but I wasn't really a fan of the humor. Based on what the short was about, it could've been just for that. Was that the case, or is this not that good a show?
The Loud House focuses on 11 year old Lincoln Loud, who lives with 10 sisters: Leni, Luna, Luan, Lynn, Lucy, Lola, Lana, Lisa, and Lily. With the help of his best friend, Clyde, he tries to find ways as the only son in his family.
I'll start by saying that the humor in the show is much better than in the pilot. It's pretty enjoyable and there were plenty of moments when I laughed. The animation is also well done. If I have one criticism, though, it would be that there isn't much to the personalities of Lincoln's sisters. I guess it can be hard writing for so many characters, but some more characteristics would be nice.
Overall, I like this show. Definitely one of the better shows to be on Nick in recent years. With good modern Nicktoons like this and Harvey Beaks (and Sanjay and Craig and Breadwinners not being renewed), I have hope that we're finally getting good Nicktoons again. Nick has a strong animation history (which is celebrating 25 years this year) that's filled with many great shows. With shows like Sanjay and Craig and Breadwinners, the last few years have been a bit frustrating. Of course, anything new will likely get screwed over because it's not Spongebob, but here's to hoping that we can at least get quality shows again!
Final score: 3.3/5
