Welcome to the Wayne

Welcome to the Wayne started out as a series of digital shorts on Nick.com in 2014. I only just saw them last year, but I quite them and have been looking forward to the series since. It was announced for this year, but for a while, I wasn't sure if it was still coming this year because I hadn't heard much about it, but I was glad to find out it was.

Welcome to the Wayne follows Ansi Molina, Olly Timbers, and Saraline Timbers as they try to unlock the secrets of the Wayne, an apartment building in New York City that holds mysteries and adventure behind every door. They come face-to-face with new characters, creatures, and oddities known as Wayne Phenomena.

I like the characters. I think they have some pretty good moments and I like what they bring to the show. The designs of the characters, while not the best I've seen, aren't bad in my opinion. I also enjoy the humor in this show.

This show follows an ongoing story. That's something becoming more common in cartoons nowadays (Gravity Falls, Steven Universe, and Star vs. the Forces of Evil are probably the best examples I can think of), but Nicktoons have remained largely episodic. I think the only Nicktoons to have an ongoing story were Avatar and Korra (maybe TMNT as well, but I don't watch it, so I'm not sure). I don't think it's something Nick necessarily needs, but I like that they're doing it with Welcome to the Wayne, and I think it's handling it well so far.

Overall, I'm really enjoying this show so far and I can't wait to see more.

Final score: 4/5
